amphetamines make me feel like it’s possible to sit on the porch and watch my kid ride her bike for 5 minutes without getting bored amphetamines help me remember to stay on the couch and rest when I’m sick instead of getting up to do whatever chore just occurred to me pic.x.com/Sb5Z2TfTg5

a post about ADHD that's really stuck with me disentangling shame about "wasted potential," recalibrating sense of "top speed" vs sustainable speed: "that’s like saying if Usain Bolt just kept going he could be the fastest marathon runner in the world" tumblr.com/everyonehasamn… pic.twitter.com/DHdUTYczrs
This was such a revelation to me, as a 40+ late-diagnosed ADHDer. Never in my life has a "habit" been something done on autopilot. ALWAYS it's been a chain built from bottom-up logic where I associate X event with Y activity quite consciously... 1/? x.com/SNeurotypicals…
Why is nobody talking about how saffron is as effective as Ritalin for ADHD and more effective for hyperactivity symptoms? pic.twitter.com/B9XEk7ilai
if i were starting from scratch w/ my adhd i would: 1. get on a low dose of meds (to give myself a fighting chance) 2. take 2g omega 3, 500mg magnesium, 5000iu vit d daily 3. have a coaching call with @jessicamalonso (she's so good at this!) 4. read gabor mate's scattered minds… twitter.com/i/web/status/1…
If ADHD cannot be assessed by a truly objective physical diagnosis (no blood test, etc.) and relies primarily on subjective assessment of phenomena subject to interpretation, how can it be considered a legitimate condition? Are there truly objective assessments? pic.twitter.com/817T6BUPe0
Just saw this thread by @NomeDaBarbarian posted on tiktok and CAN A NEUROTYPICAL PERSON CONFIRM BC WHAT?!? You mean you do things w/o actively making a new choice to do it every time you do it and you dont have to exert the same energy to make yourself do it every time? pic.twitter.com/QxyX82Cvof
People with ADHD kick into high gear when a deadline’s approaching because sympathetic nervous system activation makes the task stimulating enough to hold their attention. But you can invoke that effect by purposely activating the system w/movement & getting your heart rate up
I had been trying to verbalize this sentiment for years — when I witnessed siblings speaking on each other’s experiences pic.twitter.com/dmeDcuHrof
- Gabor Maté clips seem to be going viral recently. This is a good one
I don’t know who needs to hear this, but ADHD does NOT mean you are hyperactive. Some ADHDers are hyperactive, but there’s a whole other presentation of ADHD called Predominantly Inattentive, which is more common in women and doesn’t look hyperactive at all.
How does caffeine affect your energy levels? ADHDers vs. Neurotypicals pic.twitter.com/KRWcbQqL6R
The results are in! Here's the first piece of data I wanted to share with everyone -- Stereotype: ADHDers can't perform well in school Results: FALSE pic.twitter.com/wqXZ0eUTJ8
I just love when the advice NTs give is the exact opposite of what helps many ADHD'ers. NTs: "Pick a spot for everything. Always put it back in that spot." ADHD'ers: "Where does it usually end up? Stop fighting it, that's it's spot now. Plan for that being it's spot now."
People get so mad when psychologists suggest that ADHD + childhood trauma are related. But why? It makes perfect sense. Chronic hypervigilence and chronic dissociation are both normal response to complex trauma. No one can focus deeply when the body is stuck in survival mode.
It crushes me how self-conscious my ADHD friends are. Rushed apologies for being 5 minutes late. Remorseful explanations for not replying for a couple of days. Constant sorrys for interrupting. We've been trained to see the things we struggle with as friendship dealbreakers.
My ADHD is flaring up today. pic.twitter.com/C84HbZpCjP
ADHD is having the day off and thinking of 1,000 ways to enjoy it, deciding on none of those, and laying frozen by your own inability to choose an activity.
modern software is largely not designed for people with ADHD. most productivity software especially fetishizes over-organization and busywork
Been talking over the-trauma-cluster-formerly-known-as-adhd with a Buddhist friend the last week and we have a new (to us, haven't gone digging too deep for prior art yet) testable hypothesis about how it works: 1/
Idk what you want to call it - adhd, executive dysfunction, but I have a lot of trouble keeping my environment clean. It's gotten better over the years, but is still super hard for me! It's surprising that there's not more discussion about the psychology behind this stuff 1/ pic.twitter.com/EaCzoYvJQG
Some really great turns of phrase in here to describe difficult-to-describe things
Sometimes I wonder what I’d be like if I stopped embracing my selective ADHD and tried adderall. Grateful that I never got on it in school or I’d probably be getting paid to make PowerPoints. But caffeinated horse blinders applied to work you like… could be interesting.
ADHD is not about attention or focus. ADHD is a disease of time. People with ADHD are prone to getting stuck in warped pockets of reality where time passes either more slowly or more quickly for us than it does for other people.
I'm used to talking very openly about my mental health journey, but I've been quite hesitant to share how I made it to my ADHD diagnosis as it was, without a doubt, the darkest time of my life. As if 2020 wasn't hard enough😩 #CosmicTakeOver pic.twitter.com/RCa4FQeCoA
A lot of the tasks ADHD people struggle with aren’t that hard to do. They’re often admin tasks they relentlessly procrastinate on. And they’d be better off hiring a remote assistant on a low hour retainer to complete them instead of taking amphetamines.

This is so accurate it almost hurts just looking at it 😅 twitter.com/svblxyz/status…
This post explains ADHD way better than I’ve ever seen it explained before. pic.twitter.com/cdmbg8j2eL
everyone got adhd, but not a single person be talking about hypersensitivity to certain sounds, scents or even colors/shapes 😒 or how you always got late responses to things because it takes you longer to process them 😕 or being overly talkative and how embarrassing it can be
We ADHDers struggle with (what I call) internal structure. Due to our internal motivational issues and executive dysfunction, we struggle to drive ourselves. We require some external aid, be it meds, coping strategies or accommodations, to help keep us up and on our feet.
