This guy bought land for $450/acre and built a “cinematic off-grid sanctuary” renting unique stays. Now Disney’s paying him big bucks to film there. Here’s what’s going on👇 pic.x.com/KAOVRpV7vd

Big news brewing in Austin. After stepping down as Jasper CEO, I've been patiently waiting for another project to sink my teeth into. Something more local. Something different than software. Something aligned with my passions. I’ve always been passionate about building… x.com/i/web/status/1… pic.x.com/jbmjp9qapg

I think if I’m being totally honest, I would not advise anybody to move to NYC. I used to be either encouraging or just quiet if asked my opinion on this. However it really seems to be the case that most people end up slightly worse for living here.

Being part of a magical supportive crew is sooooo rare. I probably should've built my whole life around the few I've experienced. Instead we let ourselves get picked off by grass-is-greener-style opportunities, petty squabbles, or default endings (eg "school is over now")… twitter.com/i/web/status/1…

Here's a crazy one... A former church ⛪ is turning into apartments • 7 total units + event space • Top floor 4-bed penthouse with 8 balconies • Keeping much of the exterior • Originally built in 1897 📍San Francisco, CA pic.twitter.com/7PT3qZgnOo

Thought I saw all the craziest stadium + housing developments ...until I saw this one. Houses in the middle of the stadium • Former home of the Nankai Hawks • These were model homes used to sell • Homes were a failure; Western design wasn't adopted by the Japanese 📍Osaka pic.twitter.com/7OetCtDvv3

I miss having friends. Like real old-school, hang out any day, all night, up-for-whatever type friends. Where by default, if you've got free time you're together, having great conversations or heading out on some adventure. I've watched the humor drain from people around me as… twitter.com/i/web/status/1… pic.twitter.com/wMI5aEpSqc

Buy a 10 acre, great plot of land split between friends. Build a great house each in at least an acre. Why is this not everyone’s goal?

I am going to create a Brooklyn community of stay at home moms and other baby loving people who hang out from 9-5, help each other do mundane life tasks together, and have fun raising a bunch of babies together if it kills me

I should add to this thread by saying this is why I believe so fervently in Massena, NY. Let me explain: There's only one thing better than a commune: A community with a functional 'town square'. Lots of people living in separate housing who live within walking distance and get… twitter.com/i/web/status/1… twitter.com/shagbark_hick/…

An epic $1 billion Four Seasons development is coming to Telluride. 52 hotel keys and 40 hotel residences. $$$$$ Not to be picky, but it’s actually in Mountain Village which isn’t quite the same as being in town. pic.twitter.com/np5MWrJ6oI

Hold up, here's the most unique residential conversion I've ever seen... A former soccer stadium ⚽ turned into apartments • 650 units • Grandstand exteriors remain • The old field is now a garden • Former home of @Arsenal • 93 years of soccer played there 📍London pic.twitter.com/WIYW1GAfMa

It's easy to knock "hippie communes" but once you've lived this way it's quite difficult to go back to "normal". Virtually everywhere I stayed in my adult life was some iteration of a collective, whether at anarchist squats or their oddly-similar antipode - military barracks. 1/ pic.twitter.com/nFktxykLRG

Over the last 100 years, we have witnessed the fall of the extended family as default social context, after millennia of dominance. Families are so much smaller (8 siblings and 64 cousins used to be not crazy unusual) they cannot support a social scene in the same way.

People often tell me that their friend group talks about living near each other. And yet, almost none of them have successfully clustered their friend group yet. Here's how I got 22 of my friends to live within walking distance ✨ prigoose.substack.com/p/how-to-live-…

Would you live in a place like this as a single adult? Private studio apartment with shared kitchen, laundry, dining. Central courtyard. Maybe a library too. Why or why not? pic.twitter.com/YKnV0VJqxc

Things I see destroy the possibility of enduring local community: • Globalized career market (ppl move for better opportunities) • Globalized dating market (ppl move away for love) • Rent (ppl get priced out of neighborhoods) If u wanna build, u gotta handle these What else?

I have become semi-obsessed with this subject. The car-dependent suburban lifestyle is ***so bad for kids***. They develop no spatial sense; they are utterly dependent on others to get anywhere; they have no freedom or autonomy. twitter.com/modacitylife/s…
