Just occurred to me that buying Campfire from 37signals must be the best way to learn how to build a Rails app in 2024. Likely learn more by play with its codebase than reading books

Artsy CMO Everette Taylor on his entrepreneurial ethos, millionaires' art investments, expanding the art market, and his most prized possession—a portrait of himself by artist Henry Taylor. bit.ly/3qdhsCF

I love when @thesamparr finds obscure niche things. He shouted out this tiny podcast, and I think it got like 10k new subscribers that day ! pic.twitter.com/8AfYShLUyn

Fancy job perks won't make you happy. Here's why (backed by lovely graphics): There are two types of job perks: the basic shit and the fancy shit. Basic shit = salary, equity, medical, dental, 401k. Fancy shit= free laundry, yoga classes, office arcade, ping pong pic.twitter.com/K1hf1q9fdd

You see, you set yourself up to fail when you pick a job based on the perks. Like marrying someone because they have a Ferrari and a mansion with a swimming pool. The allure of the fancy shit goes away. Behind every Ferrari owner is someone who's sick of their Ferrari. pic.twitter.com/KVjgB71Oor

So, if you ever have to decide between the fancy shit or the basic shit, make sure to put most of the emphasis on the basic shit. Not whether they give out free headphones. pic.twitter.com/YZ2VZLiSeK

I think hiring a CEO or someone like that to operate a company you start is a great idea in some cases. Sounds great. You get the money and none of the work! But in most cases I’ve seen (1st hand, buds, or books) the hired operator rarely innovates or improves the product.

When I started The Hustle I'd write articles under pen names. I wanted to look bigger than I was. But after a while I realized it was fun, created better content, and was freeing. Now, I actually think if I started a content company again, everything would be pen names

Coinbase founder Brian Armstrong will be worth ~$20 billion by end of day (he owns 20% of coinbase). Prior to starting Coinbase in 2012, he worked at Airbnb and Deloitte. The fact that someone created that much wealth in such a short time is amazing. I love the internet

If you invested in Coinbase pre-IPO, you get to tweet about it. F the haters. BRAG. You earned it.

"Few understand this" is a stupid Twitter phrase that should be avoided. Few understand this.

I've made many millions from hosting events/conferences. Lots of people wanna do the same. Great...because now's the perfect time to start. People will want events in the next 3-6 months. I did a pod that explains everything I did: podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/171… twitter.com/TheHustle/stat…

Focus! I think a startup will fail if a just-off-the-ground founder is doing side hustles, investing, posting on social media constantly and 4 other things while also starting a company. Yes. It can be done by some (aka a few people). But for us mere mortals, focus!

It’s silly but I just LOVE seeing how huge food brands innovate (and I love tasting em!) Coke Zero + coffee. So tastey. For years baristas world mix espresso with coke. So coke made it! I’m also watching m+ms. They’re launching new flavors like crazy! pic.twitter.com/rM8t9innGI

Avoid people who don’t follow through or take action. All they do is talk about what they’re gonna do. They cannot be fixed. And even if they can, don’t waste your energy. Try to surround yourself with people who actually do stuff. It’s super contagious (both ways). Get it!

I’ve been self-employed for 13 years. In my 20s, when my buds were getting exciting jobs, I was broke, no salary, and sooo jealous. It sucked. Hard. But it can pay off. So, if you’re early in your non-traditional journey, watch this. Measure your life in decades not years. twitter.com/TheHustle/stat…

So @dharmesh is a crazy good angel investor. Early in dropbox, coinbase, and maybe, maybe more. I asked him his tips for angel investing. I was shocked by how candid he was (he told me how much he's invested so far and how it's going). thehustle.co/11-lessons-dha…

Travis Kalanick is hard to bet against. Guy is unstoppable and is the best type of founder: Rich but with a chip on his shoulder. (Obviously, Business Insider needs to stay on brand and try to make him sound evil, but great article regardless) businessinsider.com/travis-kalanic…

Stop trying to make audio text messages happen. They’re easy for you, the sender...but hard for the receiver. Don’t be a fool...don’t audio message.

There's a company called @MedimapHealth that @awilkinson partially owns. In our ep, he explains how they're turning it into a $1b company, step by step. Listen up: podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/174… twitter.com/TheHustle/stat…

Was reading about Business Insider's new union. Here's how the editorial team rates their performance. Winning an award, getting on TV, speaking on a panel is on there. Happy customers, serving users is not. Hmmm... This is why many media companies are the way they are. pic.twitter.com/mNJ5TOXLI0

Don't overthink starting a biz: There's a guy in NYC giving a walking mafia tour in NYC. See the cafes, restaurants, locations of famous mob stuff in NYC It's $150 a head. He's done at least 8000 of the tours. That's $1.2m in sales. airbnb.ca/experiences/10…

Do you think Joe Rogan going to Spotify was a smart or bad move (for him)? My opinion: Smart as he got paid! But bad because his clips aren't on YouTube as much as he's less relevant, which sucks, because I love me some JRE.
